The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) in cooperation with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released a HIPAA factsheet for healthcare providers, health plans and their business associates. It was developed with the smaller providers in mind that participate in Medicare. In this seven page factsheet, OCR gives a basic overview of the HIPAA Privacy, Security and Breach Notification Rules, including how the information is protected by the rules and who must comply with the rules. It also explains how OCR enforces the HIPAA Rules, through efforts such as a corrective action plan, fines for non-compliance.

You can download the OCR factsheet here. If would like guidance by one of CynergisTek’s HIPAA subject matter experts, please email us at info@cynergistek.com or call us at 512.402.8550 and press 1.
