CynergisTek will once again be an active participant at HIMSS18, occurring on March 5th-9th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Our thought leaders will be presenting two sessions.

Attacking Your Own Network: A Lesson on Penetration Testing

Presenters: John Nye, CynergisTek’s Vice President of Cybersecurity Strategy / Chuck Kesler, Duke Medicine’s Chief Information Security Officer.
Wednesday, March 7th from 8:30 am – 9:30 am in the Venetian Convention Center, Marcello 4401.

Penetration testing, red teaming, vulnerabilities, shells — these terms are all thrown around regularly when the topic of security is broached. But, in most cases, the lingo and the concepts are scarier to the inexperienced than the benefits appear to be. This session will explore the key benefits of offensive security, and the common reasons why healthcare organizations are resistant to penetration testing. Key components of offensive assessments such as social engineering, phishing, and penetration testing will be also discussed. A certified ethical hacker will draw from his decade of experience on the offensive side of security to identify common problems, fears, and issues that have come up over the years. The provider perspective will offer real-world examples of how offensive security initiatives could have gone better, and how attendees can avoid similar issues. Attendees will also gain a stronger understanding of offensive assessments, and benefits to the organization.

Program Integrity Research & the EHR: Process Improvement Through Integration

Presenters: Marti Arvin, CynergisTek’s Vice President of Audit Strategy / Arash Naeim, UCLA Health System’s Chief Medical Research Officer.
Wednesday, March 7th from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm in the Venetian Convention Center, Palazzo L

The session will discuss the process for developing and implementing a system to improve the workflow and efficiency of the clinical trial submission and management process. The session will discuss the considerations around privacy and security for integrating the Institutional Review Board (IRB) submission system with the clinical trials management system (CTMS) and the EHR. It will also discuss the process for reaching a balance between improving efficiency and the end user experience against assuring appropriate protections on the system taking into account the risk tolerance of the organization.
