Leading Healthcare IT Security Expert, Mac McMillan, and Industry Security Experts to Share Strategies for Protecting Patient Data at HIMSS16
Austin, Texas, February 2, 2016 — (HIMSS Booth #131) — CynergisTek, an authority in health information security, privacy and compliance, today announced that its CEO, Mac McMillan, was selected to lead two sessions at HIMSS16. In the session titled, “Compliance Does Not Equal Security,” McMillan and CynergisTek client, Jay Adams, the Director of Information Security at Tallahassee Memorial, will co-present on ensuring the security of medical records. McMillan will also co-present a session titled, “Best Practices for Protecting Against Cyber Attacks,” with Chuck Kesler, CISO of Duke Medicine.
During the “Compliance Does Not Equal Security” presentation, McMillan and Adams will help healthcare organizations identify the risks of focusing solely on compliance, and determine the technologies that are critical to building a secure enterprise. The presentation will also discuss why people—not just technology—are key to successfully achieving security. This session will take place on March 1st at 4:00 p.m. PST in the Sands Expo Convention Center, Palazzo E.
In the session “Best Practices for Protecting Against Cyber Attacks,” McMillan and Kesler will discuss today’s cybersecurity landscape in healthcare, sharing examples from provider organizations that have benefitted from modernizing security practices. This presentation will highlight emerging trends in phishing, and provide best practices for creating enterprise-wide cybersecurity awareness. This session will take place on March 3rd at 11:30 a.m. PST in the Sands Expo Convention Center’s Rock of Ages Theater.
“Staying abreast of the ever-changing cycle of increasing threats and solutions can be an overwhelming challenge for provider organizations,” said McMillan. “Simply maintaining a culture of compliance is not a sufficient way to combat today’s security issues. It is becoming increasingly vital to take a structured and informed approach to updating and maintaining security procedures. I’m looking forward to collaborating with CIOs during these sessions at HIMSS to share best practices for protecting health data, and ultimately, protecting patients.”
CynergisTek will also be exhibiting at HIMSS this year. Booth visitors will have the opportunity to play an educational phishing game to test their ability to identify a well-crafted phish email. CynergisTek will also feature educational presentations about how to identify phishing and social engineering scams in its booth. Visitors will also have an opportunity to enter a drawing for an Apple Watch.
